Aggregated results reveal patterns that individual feedback misses. When the same themes appear across student, staff, and parent responses, those are the priorities worth addressing first.
School climate refers to the quality and character of school life — including norms, values, safety, relationships, teaching practices, and the sense of belonging students and staff feel. It's distinct from school culture, which is more about deeply held values and history.
Ideally all three stakeholder groups: students (adapted for grade level), staff, and parents or guardians. Each perspective adds something the others can't see. The most complete picture comes from all three.
Keep each version short — under 10 minutes. Administer student surveys during class time. Send parent surveys by both email and paper for families without reliable internet access. Be transparent about how responses will be used.
Present findings transparently — the good and the challenging. Share what the data shows and what specific actions the school plans to take. When the community sees their input leads to action, they're more likely to engage in future surveys.
Annually is most common, usually at the same time each year for comparability. Some schools also do mid-year pulse surveys to track progress on specific initiatives.
