Investor Survey Form
Find out what your investors think while you can still act on it, not at your next raise. Collect feedback on reporting, communication, and confidence in one survey.
An investor who's unhappy with how you communicate rarely says so. There's nothing to cancel and no complaint to file, so the signal arrives much later, as a pass on the round you assumed they'd join. Typeform's investor survey asks the question directly, in the years between raises when the answer is still useful.
Investors rate your reporting, the clarity of your updates, and their confidence in the direction. An institutional investor answers about reporting cadence, metric detail, and governance, while an angel answers about how much they hear from you and whether the updates make sense without a finance background. Both say what they'd change about the way you communicate and keep them informed.
You learn how investors feel about your company reporting and communication style, in time to fix issues while there’s still time to act. The investors gradually drifting away can speak about the disconnect while you can still make improvements, and the ones who are happy tell you what to keep doing.
An investor survey is an online survey companies and funds use to collect feedback from their investors. It collects views on reporting quality and cadence, how well communication is working, confidence in the direction, and what investors would want changed. Founders and investor relations teams use investor surveys to hear concerns between raises rather than discover them during one.
Without an investor survey, you judge investor sentiment by who emails you. The one investor who writes every month shapes your reporting, while the quiet ones, who may be writing the larger checks, say nothing at all. An investor survey reaches everyone on the cap table, so what you change reflects your whole investor base, rather than just its most vocal member.
Cover what shapes investor confidence:
- Quality and cadence of reporting
- Clarity of updates
- Confidence in the direction
- Access to the team
- What they'd want changed
You can collect responses without names, but be realistic about how anonymous that is. With twelve investors on a cap table, a comment about reporting detail is often traceable to whoever wrote it, and investors know that. If candor matters more than attribution, say up front that you'll only read responses in aggregate, or have someone outside the company collect them.
Annually is enough for most, and the best time to send a survey is well before you plan to raise. Send it six months out and you still have room to make changes based on what comes back. Send it alongside the deck and it reads as a temperature check on whether they'll commit, which is a different question in itself, and gets a more guarded answer.
