Image sizes

You can use pictures and animated GIFs to bring your typeforms to life.

When you upload an image to your typeform, it will be resized automatically. This is done in order to improve the load speed of the typeform, and allows the picture to be adjusted for different situations or device types.

The maximum supported image size is 4 MB and 2560 x 2560 pixels. Image size guidelines apply to all the file formats that are supported by Typeform, namely: JPEG, PNG, and GIF (static or animated).

Images will be resized differently depending on where you’re using them in your typeform. Here’s a short guide to help you understand how resizing works.

How images are resized in Typeform depending on where you use them

There are three main ways you can use images in Typeform and each will resize your pictures differently. Here are the different ways images can be used and their corresponding sizes. For each type of image we’ll show the default (desktop) sizes and also how resizing works on mobile devices.

Individual questions, Welcome screens, and Ending screens

Images can be used to illustrate and enhance individual questions. Pictures uploaded to questions will be resized to 703 pixels. Images added to the Welcome and Ending screens will be resized and scaled to fit a maximum width of 800 pixels in default view:

For mobile devices, the maximum width for images that illustrate questions, Welcome, and Ending screens is 460 pixels:

To ensure compatibility between mobile and desktop views, we recommend the use of 1:1 square images in individual questions, Welcome screens and Ending screens.

Picture Choice questions

You can add images to build attractive and interactive Picture Choice questions. Images uploaded to the Picture Choice question will be resized to fit depending on the size option you select when adding the question. There are two options to choose from. We’ll start with the default (desktop) options:

Default mode:

- Width of images in landscape mode will be resized to a maximum of 230 pixels.

- Height of images in portrait mode will be resized to a maximum of 230 pixels.

- Height of images in portrait mode will be resized to crop to a maximum of 233 pixels.

Note that in all cases the aspect ratio of the image will be preserved.
