Recall Information

Recall Information makes your typeforms smarter and more personal. Add answers to follow up questions, so your typeform feels more alive and conversational. It’s available on all Typeform accounts. Here’s how to get started.

A simple way to let your typeform recall information is to use someone’s name, so they feel like someone is talking right at them personally. So here, a respondent tells us their name is Micah:

In a typeform using Recall Information, Micah will then see this in the following question:Now Micah will feel the typeform is talking to directly them!

Here’s how you set this up:


1. From your Workspace, start a new typeform. Then choose a Short text question and write your text, “Hi! What’s your name?”.We’re going to take that name, and show it in a following question, so it feels more personal.

2. We’ll continue by writing a little statement to make people feel at home:
“Great, (NAME)! Nice to meet you! Shall we get started?”

3. To do this, write the basic text, and where you want the answer (NAME) to appear, simply type @, and a menu will appear where you’ll see all the possible questions you can take answers from:

4. In this example, we just have one question to choose from, “Hi! What’s your name?”. So click this option, and we’ll then see this answer appear in our Statement:

5. Once you’ve chosen which information to recall, you can continue writing your text.

So when people use your typeform now, in the second question they will see their name! (or whatever they typed in the first question)

You can also use Recall Information by clicking the question icon to open Settings:

Then use the Recall Information button, which will let you choose which information you want, just as above.

Pretty neat, right?

What can I use with Recall Information?

You can add any of the following into the text (or description) of your questions, statements, or Thank You screens etc:

  • Answers from previous questions
  • Score (from Calculator)
  • Price (from Calculator + Payment field)
  • Hidden Field values

Hidden Fields

The information stored in Hidden Fields is based on information you already have about people. So, if you have a customer database you can pass the information from it into a typeform. This can be done either manually or through integration with your CRM or marketing automation software. Click here to find out how Hidden Fields work. When you have Hidden Fields set up, you will see them as options when you use Recall Information:

Examples of what you can do with Hidden Fields:

  • Welcome people by name as soon as they open a typeform
  • Pre-populate questions and statements with information you already know about someone (such as their email address, age, or even their shoe size!)
  • Track where people come from when they open a typeform
  • Send a notification to a respondent’s email address upon completion


Calculator allows you to keep a ‘Score’ in your typeform, which can be used for quizzes, personality tests, and more. You can recall Score information in questions to show people their results in a statement field, display them in a Thank You screen, or even share them in an email notification.

Examples of what you can do using the the Calculator and Score:

  • Add up someone’s score in a quiz
  • Create a personality-style test where you show someone what type of person they are
  • Recommend a product or service to someone based on their preferences
  • Calculate the number of items in an order

Payment question

The Calculator is also used to calculate the ‘Price’ when collecting payments from people. For example, if they want a book it adds $12, if they want a book and a muffin it adds $14 to Price. The total price is then sent to the Payment field ready for the customer to check out.
